Matemwe Beach House

Matemwe Beach House, which opened its doors in
August 2010, is a new luxury villa in Matemwe. It is located alongside Matemwe Retreat and offers wonderful views of the Indian Ocean and Mnemba Island.

Matemwe Beach House is decorated in a Zanzibari theme and the beach starts where the garden ends, so you can explore the marine world of the Mnemba Atoll - or simply relax on the beach, or by your pool!

Accommodation

Matemwe Beach House can sleep 6 people in 3 bedrooms with extraordinary views.

• 2 double bedrooms downstairs and a beautiful mezzanine floor, which can cater for another 2 people
• 2 bathrooms with showers (a portable bath tub is also available for babies).

The master bedroom offers a king-sized bed with a framed mosquito net and en-suite bathroom with shower. The second bedroom has twin beds and an adjoining bathroom with both bath and shower. (This bathroom is shared if you have guests staying on the mezzanine floor, which is open to the second bedroom.)

• A pool with complete privacy for sunbathing and a cooling dip (a safety net is available)
• A hammock, a large couch and scatter cushions create a relaxing atmosphere on the wooden deck, where you can enjoy tasty fresh food, relax in the shade during the day, or enjoy sundowners overlooking the ocean
• A personal butler will look after all your needs throughout the duration of your stay
• Your chef will visit the villa on a daily basis, to discuss meal plans for the day. All meals are freshly prepared in the kitchen which is adjacent to the house
• Your butler will assist with activity bookings, and recommend leisure interests depending on weather and tide conditions
• Your butler will serve all meals and act as housekeeper during your stay
• There is a 24 hour electricity supply with back-up generator
• Bottled drinking water, tea and coffee making facilities are available
• Laundry is available daily, but is not included in the rate
  
  

Food

All meals at Matemwe Beach House are served at a time of your choice. There is no set menu, so you can simply decide each morning what your individual menu will be for the day. (The chef will make suggestions depending on special deliveries and the catch of the day.)

The exceptional cuisine is a fusion of traditional Zanzibari and international flavours. Seafood is a speciality, and fresh fish is prepared on a daily basis.

Private Bar

The private bar in Matemwe Beach House is stocked with a variety of cool drinks, wines, beers and spirits – and should you require any drink not stocked in the bar, your butler will do his best to oblige.

Activities

• Snorkelling at Mnemba Atoll. Admire the vast variety and volume of marine wildlife and enjoy a scenic trip through the lagoon in one of the traditional boats
• All levels of divers have the opportunity to explore the underworld of Mnemba Atoll, and both recreational and training dives can be arranged
• Local fishing in Ngalawa (traditional boats) and deep sea fishing takes you beyond the reef to deeper waters where you will be surrounded by shoals of different species of fish
• Sea kayaking, Snorkelling equipment, beach bats, kite and Frisbee are all available at the Matemwe water sports house next door, and are free of charge
• Spice Tours, Historical City Tours, Shopping Tours and Jozani Forest to visit the Red Colobus Monkeys, as well as Dolphin Excursions at Kizimkazi are just some of the many tours that can be organized
• Guided reef walks are available on request and subject to tide
• Walks to the local village and the fish market are lead by a local guide
• The 'Escape to Infinity' trip to a secluded sandbank is an ideal getaway. It includes breakfast, brunch or lunch, depending on the tides and time of day, a bottle of sparkling wine, snorkelling, sailing in a traditional Dhow boat and enough time to enjoy the heavenly isolation. Spa Facilities

Massages, manicures, pedicures, Henna, hair braiding, waxing and facials can all be arranged - either in your room or the treatment room at Matemwe Lodge next door to the Villa.

A portable massage bed also enables you to enjoy a treatment in the privacy of the house.
