If you want to get away from it all in 5 star luxury, then Kilindi Zanzibar is the answer! The 15 domed, eastern-styled “pavilions” are scattered across 52 acres of lush tropical gardens, and bordered by a casuarina forest. Each pavilion has a wonderfully private plunge pool, as well as domed living and sleeping spaces open to the sea.

Originally designed for Benny Andersson (of Abba fame), Kilindi is a true blend of the very best of diverse cultures. The concept behind Kilindi’s original design was that of Scandinavian minimalism mixed with the dramatic architectural overtones of the Middle East. White wooden-slatted shutters embrace wide-arched open windows that afford spectacular views over the Indian Ocean. This ‘open-to-nature’ approach to Kilindi’s design provides the true essence to any stay at Kilindi Zanzibar.

Accommodation

Standing watch over the time-honoured Dhow Routes, each of Kilindi’s 15 luxurious pavilions embrace cascading plunge pools, lush tropical gardens and domed private spaces of rest, indulgence and well-being.

The extraordinary ‘wet rooms’ have radiance showers that truly give the feeling of being at one with nature, and the general decor is a perfect balance between the historic and contemporary.

There are also 2 family pavilions that sleep up to 4 people.

Privacy

With each Pavilion at Kilindi Zanzibar set in its own private tropical garden and served by a dedicated Butler, privacy is guaranteed.

Your dedicated Butler will offer you a wide selection of places to enjoy your breakfast, lunch and dinner. And should you wish to leave the oasis of your private Pavilion, your Butler will arrange any of the activities and excursions that Kilindi and the island have on offer.

Dining

Kilindi provides a variety of intimate dining possibilities… from the absolute privacy of your pavilion, to a table on the pristine white beach which runs the length of the property.

Alternatively, you can enjoy your meals on the alfresco terrace or around the swimming pool of the main pavilion.

The Main Pavilion

A cascading water bar overlooks a large 25 metre infinity pool which offers views out across the sparkling turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean.

After dinner you can relax and enjoy a pipe or nightcap in the fabulous shisha lounge.

Ocean Activities

Kilindi Zanzibar is very well located for diving and snorkelling trips, which generally take place around Mnemba Atoll.

For a more sedate trip, you could board a traditional sailing dhow for a sunset cruise.  Watching the sun set over the Indian Ocean from an African sailing boat while sipping a glass of wine is an experience you’ll never forget!

With its location on Zanzibar’s north western tip, Kilindi is also situated close to some of Africa’s best deep sea fishing grounds.

August to November provides really good sport for the big Yellowfin Tuna, one of the strongest fish around. Big Blue Marlin and a number of Striped and Black Marlin are also found, as well as Sailfish. During this season, multiple hook ups are normal, when the ocean can come alive with huge schools of Tuna in pursuit of smaller fish. During the billfish season, which is from November to March, Striped Marlin are the most prolific, sometimes showing in schools of up to ten. Large Blue and Black Marlin are also quite common during this period.

NB: All ocean activities can be arranged by Kilindi, but are provided by 3rd party suppliers, and are not included in the rate.

Spa Facilities

Ushuwari Spa provides a perfect sanctuary for you to enhance your Kilindi experience.

A range of treatments – from light massage to deep tissue treatments, body scrubs and refreshing facials – are all offered according to your individual wishes.

Sustainability

With solar power, a state-of-the-art water treatment plant that recycles their waste water for reusage in toilets and gardens, Kilindi seeks to make bold claims about sustainable, responsible resource management.

The pavilions are spread across 52 acres, and a 500m beach front to ensure that the land is used wisely.

Kilindi Zanzibar believes that high-yield/low volume tourism is the only way forward for tourism in developing countries, and that luxury in Africa is not something that can be commodified and branded, it can only be experienced.

Experience is the new luxury, they believe, and theatre is as important a part of the hotel experience as any modern interior!
